State of the art on the Systems of Innovation research: a bibliometrics study up to 2009

13/03/2012 10:58

Over the last decades there has been a growing interest on developing research and formulating public policy by using the Innovation Systems approach. However, as evidenced on the academic literature there is a lack of systematic, chronological and synthesizing studies indicating how this field has evolved over time. This paper has as main objective to consolidate the state of the art of academic research on IS, based on a bibliometrics study on literature published over the past 35 years. The results are discussed under the following perspectives: general results, chronological distribution, author relevance, articles and cited references of relevance, journals relevance and institutions and countries relevance. The paper ends with a discussion of the main implications and limitations of the study.

Initiatives in benchmarking Innovation Management in small high-technology firms: A case study in the Brazilian digital communications manufacturing sector

04/09/2010 04:23

The Brazilian government has been promoting innovation initiatives for small, medium and bigsized companies for the past years. Among its initiatives, a benchmarking program – developed by the Euvaldo Lodi Institute in Santa Catarina State, Brazil – was started, aiming that assessing the current performance and practice levels, regarding innovation in Brazilian SME and at comparing them against an international database containing data from more than a thousand firms from 32 countries. In this paper, we report how a small firm faced the challenges imposed by this benchmarking initiative. The firm in study was selected for the pilot project in the State of Santa Catarina, along with four other firms, due to their technology and product development-oriented strategies and for being awarded several times, state and nation-wide, for their R&D and innovation practices. We report the challenges imposed by the benchmarking program the firm needed to overcome and how the company achieved this objective, through bibliographical surveys and on-site visits to the company during the period 2006-2010 and we outline how the firm evolved since then and their current challenges for the forthcoming years. We conclude by assessing the gains of the firm in relation to their innovation management programme

A multitasking de mídias como bloqueador do processo criativo: uma visão desde a criação do conhecimento

04/09/2010 03:52

Managing Innovation in Small High-technology Firms: A Case Study in Brazil

04/09/2010 03:47

Evaluating innovation competence and practices is a significant and complex issue for many contemporary organizations and it presents itself as a challenge for forthcoming initiatives. In this article, we present the case study of a small hightechnology firm. Cianet Networking is a digital communication solutions manufacturer in Brazil that went through the implementation of an innovation management assessment system. This article reports the challenges the firm faced through the diagnosing/benchmarking and action plan proposal phases as well as the challenges facing the implementation phase. This system helped the firm to understand their strengths and weaknesses as well as to establish action plans in order to achieve higher performance. Since the beginning of the implementation, the results have corroborated the firm´s positive operational outcomes.

Innovation Management Benchmarking in Brazilian Technology-based Small and Medium Enterprises

04/09/2010 03:42

This paper presents an initiative developed in Brazil for Innovation Management benchmarking: the Benchstar Methodology (BM). The application of BM in a Brazilian technologybased SME is presented and discussed as well as the company’s position in relation with the market’s worldleaders. The experiences gained by the case company in this process facilitated the identification of the causes that were preventing it to reach higher performance levels and also, the establishment of corrective actions. The BM may be used as a startpoint for Brazilian SMEs looking to measure their relative level of innovation.
